Mental Mobility Hub, Chapel Market
Year 2: BA Architecture at Central St. Martins 2022/23
This project takes a spin on civic mobility in terms of mental health – addressing the difficulties of going out and being mobile as someone who suffers from social anxiety. The target user is anyone who developed an level of social anxiety during the pandemic. The client is Islington Council. This building will be a space for the community and all classes will be paid for by attendees. The council will be responsible for building the building itself. The dance, yoga and tai chi classes will be led by local business, meaning that money put in will go back to the community. It’s charred timber cladding is naturally resistant to pests and weather conditions. The interior will be light timber to aid the use of natural materials for mental health. The building is as naturally sourced as possible – natural lighting, sustainable water management and solar power making it as self-sufficient as possible reducing the cost when in use.
Sketch Model Development
Removing the constraints of the site boundaries has allowed for more playful iterations of my design based on the modular elements of my program. Moving forward I will use layers to create different internal and external spaces and a more interactive design.
